JACQUELINE PHANG

Speech & Language Therapist

Upon qualifying in 1996 as a Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) in London, UK, there were less than 70 SLTs locally with most being expatriates. It was an exciting period of learning and setting up of services. In one of my last positions as Deputy Chief Therapist of the Rehabilitation Department at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, my role included clinical supervision and improving patient-related processes.

Over the course of a decade working in various acute and community hospitals, I learnt about language and swallowing disorders through the ages: from premature infants, children with cleft lip and palate, gastro-oesophageal reflux, failure to thrive, respiratory disorders, congenital heart failure and myriad syndromes to adults who experienced various neurological events, degenerative diseases, voice disorders and dementia.

From 1998-2010, I served on the committee of the Speech and Language Therapy Association Singapore (SALTS) in various capacities as Professional Development coordinator, Vice-President, Strategic Planning and Regulation committee member and later as one of the auditors. From 2013-2015, I was appointed to the Allied Health Professions Council's (AHPC) Speech Therapy Credential Committee to help set the groundwork for regulating the profession in Singapore. Concurrently, I was appointed to the Allied Health Professions Council from 2014-2016, under the Ministry for Health (MOH).

WENDY PHANG

Therapy Assistant / Business Development

I worked in regional sales and marketing then branding for seventeen years in the beauty industry. After being awarded Best Out-of-Home Media of the Year (2010) for a fragrance launch, I was headhunted to manage a British fragrance brand for Singapore and Malaysia. I developed their customer relations management processes and product launch programs to turn around their retail business. Subsequently, I was scouted to increase the presence of a leading Korean skincare house in the travel retail sector across Asia Pacific.

However, the frequent travel took a toll on my family life, and I felt compelled to make a change. I joined Yakkety Yak in 2016 and had the opportunity to blend my interest in language and communication. Apart from assisting in group programs, my experience in business and marketing has helped Jacqueline implement programs close to her heart. I have learned a lot through interacting with the families and children we see and benefitted greatly from training programs in the following areas:

• Learn to Play

• Move to Learn

• SPARK Communication™  - Coaching Parents to Use Hanen Strategies

• Lego-Based Therapy

• Buteyko Method
